Last year, we elected a democratic socialist mayor and changed the world. This year, we swept the primaries and won two new congressional seats, including Socialist Majority Caucus (SMC) member Claire Valdez in NY-7. Because of these campaigns, nearly 10,000 people across every borough joined NYC-DSA.

SMC has a plan to grow the socialist movement, defeat fascism, and deliver for the working class: run AOC for president and elect another socialist slate in 2028, build the labor and youth movements, and make DSA easier for working class people to join and stay in.

Join us and vote for the SMC slate at convention.

SMC’s Platform For NYC Convention 2026

Socialism is winning. It's time to seize the moment.

Our Platform:

Run AOC for president and elect another socialist slate in 2028. Running a democratic socialist and building power across City Hall, City Council, Albany, and DC is how we defeat fascism, tax the rich, deliver universal childcare and healthcare, and stop funding war and genocide.

  1. Run AOC 2028 To Win A Democratic Socialist President

  2. From Brooklyn to Buffalo: Building DSA Electoral Power Statewide

  3. 2026 Update To Mass Election Strategy For NYC-DSA

Build the labor movement. DSA isn’t just partnering with the labor movement – we’re building it. Our members already include rank-and-file union members, labor reformers, and staff organizers. To keep building, we must work with unions to organize tens of thousands more workers across NYC and bring labor into all campaigns we run.

  1. NYC-DSA and a Mass Labor-Left Movement

  2. Organizing to Win: Develop NYC-DSA’s capacity to research and execute new organizing campaigns with labor movement allies

  3. Building Socialism Requires Tackling Amazon

Build the youth movement. Youth are driving the socialist movement, from our most committed canvassers to the students on the frontlines fighting for a free Palestine. Socialism’s future depends on us building bridges, integrating YDSA into NYC-DSA, and committing to multigenerational organizing at every level.

  1. For The Mass Engagement for the Socialist Youth

  2. For A Renewed Youth Wing in NYC-DSA

Demystify DSA. We need to make it easier for working class people to participate, weigh in, and stay in our organization to build a robust socialist movement. One big election for internal leadership and one unified process for chapter proposals, so you know where to be, and when, to help make big decisions.

  1. One Big Election

  2. Enhance Chapter Democracy Through an Empowered Citywide Leadership Committee

  3. Resolution for Fiscal Support for Branches & Priority Campaigns

  4. For a Unified and Democratic Chapter Proposal Process

Who is Socialist Majority Caucus?

From canvassers to co-chairs, SMC members have helped deliver our biggest victories and grown DSA. We run exciting campaigns to bring the working class into our movement and prioritize developing new leaders.

Many SMC members first got involved in DSA as rank-and-file union members or through a simple organizing conversation, and went on to become field leads, labor reformers, and elected chapter leadership. SMC member Claire Valdez is just one example: she went from being a union member who canvassed for DSA candidates to a field lead to New Member Coordinator of NYC-DSA – and now she’s headed to Congress.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Socialist Majority Caucus?

We’re a caucus within the largest socialist organization in the United States that believes in the democratic road to socialism – that means we have to bring in a majority of working class people into alignment with our socialist movement to win our vision and build a popular front against fascism.

What Is Convention?

Convention is the heart of DSA’s democracy, where every member has the opportunity to decide how we use the power we've built: setting the agenda for the next two years, changing our bylaws and structures, and proving how much more is possible. Last convention, DSA members voted to endorse Zohran.

What are caucuses?

In DSA, members join caucuses to organize together around shared visions and strategies for democratic socialism. Most, but not all, span across multiple chapters and are often places where folks get their shared political analysis of the organization.

As soon-to-be Congressmember Claire Valdez put it, “I think it’s a majority of people [who can get behind democratic socialism]. Our ideas are resonant, and if we’re truly going to win our democracy and advance a true democratic socialist vision, it has to be a majority. We have to get a majority of people on board. And I think it’s possible – people have the same frustrations with their private health insurance, or their terrible management company, or national grid…and I think it’s possible to get onboard with a vision that the state can provide for them, the state can help out, and give them some breathing room. It’s really essential we win the majority.”

Democracies are won by majorities. Through the means of increasing democracy in all aspects of our lives, we believe that it will take a majority of New Yorkers to create a democratic socialist landscape in New York City, and that is also extended to the US broadly, which is why our members are frequently collaborating and meeting with DSA chapters across the country.

What do we mean by "majority"?

What’s the difference between SMC and the other caucuses?

Socialist Majority is one of the oldest caucuses in DSA starting in 2019. SMC wants socialist politics to be open but also part of coalitions to both defeat the right and win working class people to the left. We have consistently, unlike other caucuses, looked to both grow with groups and people outside of DSA to build a socialist bloc. We're more interested in what unites us than separates us from other progressives, while maintaining we think there must be an independent, democratic-socialist party-like organization in this country.
