A New Web Series: Organize Strike Repeat

We are proud to announce the launch of Organize Strike Repeat, a web series that highlights the work of organizers in DSA. The goal of the show is to share concrete experiences, campaigns, and strategies that move us toward us democratic socialism.

DSA currently has about 70,000 members and over 100 chapters across the United States. Collectively, we have a wealth of organizing knowledge and experience. But aside from the national convention, which occurs every two years, there are few opportunities for us to share, across chapters, what we’ve learned during our local organizing work.

Organize Strike Repeat is a show that offers DSA members the opportunity to share their organizing experiences and tips with the rest of the world. The show is created by Kevin Richardson and Maggie Johnston, two members of NC Piedmont DSA.

There are many leftist shows and podcasts out there, but our show is different in a number of ways.

To start, we center the work of DSA members, specifically. There are many more members of the left than there are DSA members, but we want to highlight what it means to organize in the context of a member-run, explicitly socialist organization.

Our show also differs from other political shows because we focus on concrete organizing work, not political philosophy (or “theory”). Don’t get us wrong: political philosophy is important. (One of the co-hosts of the show is an academic philosopher.) However, we think there should be more resources on how to implement our political ideals.

Another distinct feature of our show is that we focus on constructing socialist futures, not analyzing the capitalist present. Existing political shows survey and analyze the devastation caused by capitalism, but we also think it is important to imagine positive alternatives to capitalism. We talk about concrete ways to move toward socialism.

Lastly, our show is unapologetically intersectional and anti-racist. In part, this means our guests are mostly people who are not cisgender white men. We profile DSA members from different parts of the country, and we incorporate race, gender, and sexuality into every show; we do not restrict issues around identity to specific episodes.

Organize Strike Repeat is a season-based web series. The current season is planned to be eight episodes long. Confirmed guests include Bianca C. (NYC-DSA), Symone B. (DSA-LA), Wale O. (Seattle DSA), Ashik S. (Metro DC DSA), Megan S. (NC Piedmont DSA), and Kristian H. (DSA North Texas). Episodes will be posted every other week, beginning on September 17th, 2020 at 6 PM EDT. You can find a trailer of the show here. Each episode will be posted on the Agitator TV Youtube channel.

Although the show is meant to be viewed, you can also listen to the show on a number of podcast directories. You can find links to the show, on various platforms, here
