SEIZE THE
MOMENT!
Socialist Majority’s platform for the 2025 DSA National Convention
DSA must turn to the masses and build working-class power.
With the second election of Donald Trump by an expanded base of support, the United States has taken a major step toward fascism, oligarchy, and authoritarianism; the reins of government have been handed over to Elon Musk and a cabinet of billionaires who are imposing massive austerity, repression, and suffering upon the working-class; the Democratic establishment has no solutions.
There is no other option: the left must seize the moment.
DSA must step up to the scale of the crisis and organize millions of angry and not-yet politicized people into the fight against oligarchy and for a society that finally works for the working class. Our power, as well as our ability to defend ourselves, lies in our numbers and our solidarity.
We believe in the democratic road to socialist revolution, and that work begins by building a socialist majority.
Socialist Majority is proud to stand behind the following platform for the 2025 DSA National Convention:
To qualify for this year’s convention, proposals must receive 250 signatures from DSA members by May 11th on the DSA Discussion Board. You can create your account here and find detailed instructions for signing proposals here.
1. Build an Anti-Fascist Front and Demonstrate Socialist Leadership
Our primary task in the current political moment is to defeat the far right. We will take a nonsectarian approach to uniting with groups that are mobilizing hundreds of thousands of working people into action to protect lives and democratic rights.
Even as we work together, we will contest for socialist leadership of the anti-fascist front’s strategy and of the working class. DSA will demonstrate in practice and through mutual struggle that socialist politics and organization are the best path forward for striking blows against the capitalist class and the far right.
Support our resolutions:
“To Defeat Trump, Turn Toward the Masses”
This resolution proposes that DSA orient toward the masses by building the largest possible opposition to the Trump administration, creating unity around a democratic socialist strategy that can have a broad and profound impact and expand our socialist project.
“DSA and the Democratic Road to Socialism”
Democratic socialism represents a distinct and meaningful political tradition. This resolution lays out some of its fundamental principles and aspirations to end capitalist and imperialist oppression, and to bring the institutions of political, economic, and social life under popular and truly democratic control.
2. Defeat Corporate Democrats and Elect More Socialists
We must defeat corporate Democrats to reshape legislative agendas across the country on every level—from school boards to Congress and the White House—for the working class. DSA chapters have successfully elected hundreds of socialists at all levels of government, and as the Democratic establishment is losing footing with the American people, we have a key opportunity to capture its base through primaries.
We must continue that work by expanding our electoral project to every part of the country, creating co-governance structures through existing Socialist in Office programs, and building democratic socialist caucuses. And we must get ourselves ready to contest congressional terrain and the 2028 presidential primary. Running campaigns in strategic races will grow DSA and help us work toward building a mass workers’ party.
Support our resolution:
“Seize the Moment! Defeat Corporate Democrats and Elect More Socialists”
This resolution commits DSA to seizing the moment—repulsion at the overreach and immorality of the far right, and deep disenchantment with the collapse and complicity of corporate Democrats—in 2026 and beyond, by running a bench of candidates for office in every possible chapter, at every possible level, including a slate of congressional candidates in the 2026 midterms. The resolution also creates a Congressional Subcommittee under the NEC to research districts and forms an exploratory 2028 Committee to recruit a socialist candidate for President.
3. Workers Will Lead the Way
Organized labor is an essential bulwark against oligarchy and fascism, and is the key to transforming society. With the power and popularity of labor on the rise in the US, and with the Trump administration’s union-busting efforts highlighting the importance of state power in protecting and growing the labor movement, DSA should work with unions to recruit and run labor candidates as alternatives to the far right and the neoliberal center.
Even as we defend against attacks on workers’ rights and bring a labor identity and platform into the electoral terrain, we must move a supermajority of our coworkers and union siblings into collective action. Through militant shop-floor organizing, building coalitions around common good demands, engaging in strategic political campaigns, and securing non-reformist labor reforms, we must develop the working-class leadership needed to build a mass workers’ party capable of winning elections and implementing a democratic socialist program.
Support our resolution:
“Workers Will Lead the Way: Join with Unions to Run Labor Candidates”
This resolution lays out a goal of a national slate of at least 10 DSA labor candidates in 2026 and steps for working with allied unions on this effort. This work will be treated as only one essential tactic among several to stand with labor to meet the moment, and will be pursued in conjunction with other urgent work, as well as in building toward a May Day 2028 general strike.
4. Fight the Roots of Oppression at Home and Abroad
As the Republican Party continues endless war and launches an all-out assault on those they deem most vulnerable to attack—including immigrants, trans people, students, federal workers, and pro-Palestine protesters—to divide the working class and pave the way for the triumph of authoritarianism; and as corporate Democrats adopt right-wing rhetoric and policy even as they lay down and play dead; we must unequivocally demonstrate solidarity with those targeted by fascists and imperialists. As socialists at the heart of the American empire, DSA must organize to protect people targeted by both domestic oppression and US imperialism.
Support our resolution:
“From Palestine to Mexico: Fighting Fascist Attacks on Immigrants”
This resolution proposes ways in which members, chapters, and the organization as a whole will pursue the struggle against nativism and in defense of immigrants and pro-Palestine protestors, recognizing that the only way to meet the current political moment is solidarity and a recommitment to building class-based, mass politics.
Support the resolutions:
“One Member, One Vote for National Leadership Elections”
Union members from across the country have demanded that their organizations become more militant and more responsible to the rank-and-file by opening up leadership elections to every member. DSA must join these unions and be true to our belief as democratic socialists in the principle of “One Member, One Vote.” This resolution allows every single one of our members to have a say in our national leadership elections.

“Democracy Commission Structural Reform Proposal”
DSA’s leadership is too often unable to hold much of the urgent political work our times demand, and to remain deeply rooted in the base of the organization. This cross-caucus resolution, co-authored by SMC members, takes steps to fix those problems by putting forward a suite of organizational reforms. Most importantly, it puts into practice lessons learned from socialist parties around the world and expands DSA’s National Political Committee (NPC) from 16 to 27 members to make it a more functional and democratic body.
5. Model Solidarity and Democracy in DSA
For us to seize the moment, we need a strong and resilient organization that showcases a solidaristic, comradely culture, and democracy at every level. Our national leadership must have the capacity to help build a larger, stronger DSA—as well as a more coherent DSA, where we expand our ability to act as a national organization. Our National Political Committee must represent our full membership and, just as militant union reformers have demanded of their organizations, it must be elected on the basis of One Member, One Vote.
